THE STORY OF A FATHER AND HIS SON

1890

The beginning of an epic journey

In a small village in the Antwerp region, on 12 December 1889, a cerulean sky overlooked the thatched cottages. Smoke bellowed from the chimneys as a long and harsh winter unfolded. In one of the houses, August and Henri were busy creating what will be their first sauce. By candlelight and with their family keeping the secret, they tested and experimented with different combinations and proportions of ingredients, spices, oils until they obtained their first creamy, delicate sauce: the traditional mayonnaise. That's when the August & Henri epic journey began!

Dozens of recipes

The night and its magic were their source of inspiration from one day to the next. They created and re-wrote several recipes and thus created about ten traditional Belgian sauces.

International sauces

From the Mona Lisa in Paris, the lions' fountains in Granada to the pyramids of Giza, the design processes behind the most beautiful things in the world are kept secret. Do you understand now why August & Henri recipes are also kept secret?

A family secret

The sauces are starting to have growing success. Father and son then decide to protect their recipes in a safe hidden in a secret place which is revealed from generation to generation.
